Exam time is fast approaching, so here are a few tips to keep you focused.
- Allow enough time to revise and study, don't leave it until the last minute! Think about what works best for you. Create a timetable!
- Give yourself a break. This is perhaps easier said than done, but try not to give yourself such a hard time. You're doing your best and that's the best you can do!
Being good to yourself during periods of high stress is likely to give you a bit more motivation to work harder, so why not treat yourself to a massage or go out for dinner with a friend to take your mind off things.
Organise your space, de-clutter and create a comfortable environment. Make sure that any distractions are far away (i.e. computer games, mobile phones, tv, etc.) so that you can focus on the task at hand.
- Keep a healthy diet. Stay away from junk food and instead choose nutritious meals and healthy snacks. Remember to drink plenty of water!
- Make sure you get enough sleep. When you're studying hard, your brain needs to rest in order to function and assimilate what you are learning. Memory and concentration can be badly affected by lack of sleep.
- Learn to deal with your stress. Find out what helps you during stressful times; some students do exercise, others practice mindfulness, even taking a few deep breaths can help.
- Avoid social media. This will be a tough one for many students, checking social media during revision period is the worst type of procrastination possible, as we all know how quickly the time disappears when your snooping on your newsfeed. In addition to this, many of your friends will be in the same boat, so are likely to be talking a lot about how much they're studying (or not studying). This is likely to stress you out even more, or at least influence how much time you're spending revising.
